Dental Filling

Treatment Description:

dental fillingWhat is a dental Filling?

The term filling, means restoring or reconstructing the tooth tissue which is damaged by decay. However, before the cavity is filled, the dentist removes the carious in the tooth, then the cavity is cleaned and at the end carefully filled. There are two techniques in Budapest of filling the cavities:

- Indirect: It means filling the damaged tooth with an inlays (onlays, overlays) produced outside the mouth (these contributions are usually prepared in the laboratory)

- Direct: Filling the cavity with a plastic material in the tooth right away (this definitely displaces the indirect technique)

What Filling types are available?

There are a few filling types available on the market:

- Dental amalgam is a combination of mercury (Hg) and alloys of other metals (silver, cadmium, tin, copper). Amalgam Fillings used to be widely used, but because of their bad appearance (silver color) were mostly used to fill cavities present in the molars. From time to time we hear about the exploding "amalgam wars" which reported on the toxicity of amalgam fillings due to the release of mercury from them. Conducted in this regard numerous studies show, however, that these claims are largely exaggerated, because in reality the humans takes more mercury into the body even while eating rather than through the release from the filling.

- Composite Filling- Composite resins are materials harden under the influence of light - the use of curing lights. Their color is matched to the color of the patient's teeth, and therefore they are used in the front teeth and, since the rejection of amalgams, in the molars. Composite Fillings are divided into light-harden chemically-harden. The components included in the composite fillings are mixed and placed directly in the tooth. Nevertheless, attention should be paid to the fact that this type of filling is less stable (3-10 years) and also prone to doscoloration (smoking, drinking coffee).

- Gold Fillings- Fixed with cement, extremely durable (up to 20 years), suitable for filling large cavities.

- Inlay/Onlay- These fillings are made to order, and they are mostly placed in the cavity of the tooth by the use of cement. To apply this type of filling it is necessary to make an impression of the tooth containing a carious cavity.

How long do the Fillings in Budapest last?

A Dental Filling in a well cleaned tooth can last even a few decades. If the material, which supplemented the tooth, rubs and scrubs, the filling should be replaced every 5-10 years. Such situations are rare, however.

How do I know that I should replace my Fillings?

You should go to the dentist immediately when a filling falls out or you feel pain in your tooth. This may be due to recurrent caries. Delay a visit to the dentist, in this case may lead to gangrene or hypersensitivity.

After Treatment:

No special care of the fillings needs to be taken. However, you should remember to keep daily oral hygiene to avoid recurrent caries.
